Free Resources: A Leather-Hilted Foil, Scotland, c. 1810

Leather Hilted Foil

An early example of marketing in fencing…

NOT FOR SALE

This is one of the very few leather-hilted foils I that have run across where leather is not used as a substitute for or in addition to metal.

The leather disk that serves as the guard is embossed deeply with the words “Messrs. Roland Edinburg”… indicating that it was made and used at a time both Joseph Roland—who took over Domenico Angelo’s brother’s establishment in Edinburgh—and his influential son George were in business together.

Below, please find a free essay on the background of this weapon.

2016 Price Range 3: $350-$400.00
